The $1,000 transparence

It looks much like the art deco type of gear, but it is just as fresh as it can be: one transparent-speaker sound system that claims it will change the way you experience music. Now, it's true, loading some completely transparent loudspeakers on your desktop might look indeed weird but nevertheless cool.[admark=1]

The sonic configuration is even weirder as we're speaking about two tweeters and two subwoofers, pretty much like small-scale PA systems with bass-boxes and top loudspeakers. We've said it before, the FH007 looks very nifty and is allegedly the result of many years of research and development in both audio and aeronautical fields.

As specced by Ferguson Hill, the FH007 is the perfect combination between the excellence of the large, $20,000 systems and the small-scale and portability needed. The complex-curved shape of the front-loading horn-like tweeter speaker reportedly ensures the best match between the way air moves away from the cone and the stationary air in the room. Acrylic was used for obtaining the eye- and ear-pleasing housing for the actual drivers; the FH007 looks quite good, it's true beyond doubt, but does it sound as it looks?

The FH007 sports a massive array of 4 amplifiers powering it up; "massive" because each loudspeaker has its own amplifier so no extensive grids of crossovers were needed. All the amps are grouped in a small cube with each side 140mm long.

The amp is able to produce 4x16W RMS with zero distortions in the class A specifications for the first 1.5W as specced by Ferguson Hill. The rest of the power is deployed by the class A/B behavior of the amp.

The FH007 sports a 75-20,000Hz frequency response and its speakers run in 8 Ohms impedance. Still no one knows if the FH007 will actually perform like Bond, but the price is "Bondesque": $1,000!

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
