Science

DAN TALPALARIU
Dan is in charge with the space and technology aspects of the Science category. He enjoys writing his stories in a way that makes them easy for most people to understand (most scientific and technical texts are so complicated and sometimes hardly accesible!). Dan has worked with several newspapers and publishing houses and has made it his purpose to attract as many readers as possible to the wonderful world of science.

Besides science, Dan is also passionate about nature, books, movies, fishing, videogames and music (he plays the guitar in two different bands!).

TUDOR VIERU
As a science editor, Tudor focuses mostly on issues such as climate change, history, medicine, behavior and health, with the occasional scy-pry article. Even though he possesses a biology, physics and chemistry background, Tudor admits that writing for the science category at Softpedia can be challenging at times. Still, seeing our users read more and more motivates him to keep writing better articles.

His favorite topics are medicine and the environment, with behavior being the runner-up.

Tudor's spare time is occupied with composing music and playing with his band. Skating or watching movies are also favorite pastimes.

Personal motto: I'd like to think that each individual is capable of so many deeds, that incorporating them into a motto would be impossible. But if I'd have to select one for myself, it would sound like "what does this button do?", seeing how I'm always curious and hungry to learn more.

Technology

ALEX VOCHIN
Alex is a true "gadget-holic". He's been with Softpedia for two and a half years, working as a technology and gadgets editor, watching (and reporting) as the world's tech and consumer electronics evolve. He considers himself lucky to be able to combine both work and hobbies (Internet, trying out and testing new toys and electronics).

Personal motto: "There is no spoon" - I've loved this idea since first seeing the movie, simply because I do believe that anyone can and should think "out of the box", have a larger perspective on things.

FLORIN TIBU
Florin's area of expertise lies in the audio department, but he also writes about all kinds of gadgets, audio or not. He believes that gadgets are fun and appreciates the opportunity to talk about the coolest, most useful, but also weird or plain silly gizmos. He also stresses that he does not like iPods and will never buy one.

His hobbies include motorbike riding and rocking out with his band.

IONUT ARGHIRE
Ionut is a technology editor since October 2007. He's always been a computer enthusiast, so putting his writing skills (proven by his university degree) to work on Softpedia's technology category felt natural and allowed him to stay close to one of his hobbies. He also enjoys a good video game (gotta get that latest next-gen title!) and, when looking at a computer screen gets tiresome, a good book is more than welcome.

TRAIAN TEGLET
It's been nearly a year since Traian joined the Softpedia News team. Receiving his first computer a long time a go (a Pentium 166 PC) sparked a strong interest in everything that is new in hardware technology, which he's putting to good use in his articles. Traian's hobbies include gaming (on PCs!), reading, travelling, music and, obviously, overclocking.

Security

LUCIAN CONSTANTIN
Lucian is one of the editors who joined the team more recently, in 2008. He has since been keeping our readers informed with the latest developments in the IT Security industry.

He has always been passionate about computers and has previously worked as a network/system administrator. His knowledge extends from computer hardware and networking to security and even web development.

Lucian chose to write about IT Security since he thinks that his experience in this field is extensive, as he is a member of several non-profit online organizations that offer free assistance to users affected by computer threats as well as tracking new malware in certain environments. He considers that by writing in this field, he is able to reach out and help even more people, which gives him personal satisfaction.

In addition of being a computer geek, he likes philosophy and politics. He also considers himself a big movies consumer.

Personal motto: Socrates' famous quote - "The only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing."

Windows and all things Microsoft

MARIUS OIAGA
Marius has been writing for Softpedia News since Vista was still in beta, way back in 2006, and intends to stick around for Windows 50 (this will probably take a very long time since Microsoft has only recently reached Windows 7). He believes that reporting on Microsoft events and product launches is like living the high life of IT journalism, because the Redmond company is at the center of the software universe.

He only unveiled one of his hobbies: working with photographs, especially untouched images in RAW format.

Personal motto: "Updated one minute ago", obviously

Linux and open source

MARIUS NESTOR
Marius is a member of the Softpedia team since early 2005 and his hard work can be witnessed on our Linux section and the corresponding news category. He's a huge supporter of the open source ideology and community.

His journey into the wonderful world of open source began somewhere in the year 2000, when he first installed Mandrake Linux 8.2 (now known as Mandriva) and Red Hat 6.2. Since then, Marius has tested hundreds of Linux and BSD flavors. He is a "self-taught" person, and his current goal is to "instruct" others in the ways of Linux. His favorite distro and main operating system is Ubuntu, which he uses daily both at work and at home.

In his spare time, Marius likes to improve his photography skills.

DANIEL POP-SILAGHI
Daniel joined the Softpedia team in February 2009 and closely watches the Linux scene for the latest news. First Looks and Reviews are also part of his daily menu here at Softpedia.

He strongly believes that Open Source is the future and hopes that more and more people realize its true potential. Linux has been a hobby for Daniel for quite some time and now that it translated into a journalism (another passion of his) career, he couldn't be happier.

When he's not trying out countless Linux distributions, he likes to immerse himself into the world of gaming or just chill out to some jazz music.

Filip also writes the weekly "Recommended Apps", a valuable resource for Mac users both novice and experienced. What drives him forward the most is user feedback, especially when it complements his articles.

Games

ANDREI DUMITRESCU
Andrei is one of Softpedia's gaming news and reviews editors. He has been into games from the young age of 6, when his father showed him the classic Prince of Persia running on an office mainframe, and hasn't stopped since. He favors strategy games, being equally attraced to turn based, real time or grand strategies. Although he used to be a decided PC gamer, the last few years have seen him shift interest towards consoles such as the Xbox360 and Playstation 3 (not much love for the Nintento Wii though).

When he's not playing games, Andrei tries to keep up with local and international politics, putting his political science diploma to good use. He also enjoys reading, mostly fantasy and science fiction.

Personal motto: "Per aspera ad astra"

ANDREI DOBRA
Andrei Dobra is one of the new faces in the Softpedia News team. He believes video games are a fun way to relax after a day of hard work, especially if said work is actually... more gaming. Andrei is more of a PC gamer, an obvious fact if you have a look at his reviews.

He's quite a social person and enjoys a bit of amateur photography and sharing the results with close friends.

Personal motto: "Smile, tomorrow could be worse"

Mobile devices and software - Telecommunications

COSMIN VASILE
Cosmin leads Softpedia's "mobile division" since 2005 by reporting on the latest handset launches and rumors as well as interesting events in the mobile world. He also contributes to our extensive phone and handheld database. He enjoys writing articles and reviews about what's fresh on the handset market, being able to offer readers answers to important questions like: "Is it worth buying this phone?", or "What's with this new handset? Can it fly?".

His hobbies include fantasy literature, Dungeons & Dragons RPG and Miniatures (the geek still lives after all these years) and lots and lots of other board and trading card games. His 750+ D&D miniatures collection is pretty impressive.

Personal motto: I don't have a real life motto, but when I play D&D RPG I always have this in mind: "Have one person in the world you can trust...and never turn your back on him."

Life & Style

ELENA GORGAN
When she joined the team more than two years ago, Elena knew that writing was the thing for her. She feels that contributing to the Life&Style category gives her the chance to do what she likes the most: help others and stay informed with what's hot and what's not in various areas, while also being able to express her own opinion freely.

Elena's hobbies include travelling, movies and music, but she claims that nothing beats curling up in bed with a good book.

Personal motto: While I never wanted to believe people could be best described by using just one phrase or sentence, the first time I heard You think you know, but you have no idea, I realized just how universally true that was.
